ASSOCIATION FOR THE CONSERVATION OF THE ARBORETUM LA BERGERETTE

Why the association was created:

Over more than 25 years, Shaun Haddock has created a unique and important collection of oaks and other trees from around the world. The association was created in late 2018 to help safeguard the future of the arboretum and to assist Shaun in its maintenance.

The objectives of the association are:

  • To maintain and develop the national collection of oaks and the other plants at the arboretum
  • To consolidate relations with current partners: IOS (International Oak Society), CCVS (Conservatoire des collections végétales spécialisées)
  • To develop relationships with global, national, regional and departmental counterparts

WHY JOIN ?

  • Members of the association help towards the upkeep of the Arboretum, by which in addition they contribute to oak species conservation. For example, in Mexico, which has over 170 oak species (more than any other country), in some areas 90% of the forest has been lost in only 20 years. The many Mexican species planted at La Bergerette and in other collections worldwide help to ensure the survival of species otherwise at risk of extinction.

  • Members are able to visit the arboretum throughout the year on open days, or by appointment, in order to enjoy the many species of trees and other plants during the changing seasons.

CONSEIL D'ADMINISTRATION and BUREAU

The association is directed by a Council of Administration comprising a minimum of 7 members, elected at the annual general meeting of members. The Council of Administration appoints from its number a management team comprised of a president, secretary and treasurer.
